It's Christmas in Hondon valley
Can you smell it? In most homes in the towns of the Hondon Valley it has been a few days since it begins to smell like Christmas. Ovens on, flour, almonds, sugar…
For many families it has always been a tradition to make homemade sweets for these special days that are about to come. Christmas is a reason for reunion of families, friends. Moments to share a good lunch or dinner. And at the end, you have to put that sweet touch.
But without a doubt, if there is an ingredient that cannot be missing in these homemade sweets, it is the almond.
Alicante, and more specifically our valley, is an area of almond production. That is why most traditional Christmas products contain this precious ingredient.
Just as in Jijona nougats are made by hand, in Hondón de los Frailes and surrounding towns it has always been a tradition to make almendrados, cuatro iguales, suspiros, mantecados, rollets de vi, rollets de anís… accompanied by the drink by excellence of our land, the mistela.
We encourage you to taste these sweets. I'm sure you'll love them.
From this corner of our blog, in Alicante Maravillas we want to wish you a Merry Christmas!
And that this Christmas, nothing is more urgent than being with those who matter most to us.
