Fondó en Festes: The Family Tradition of Typical Sweets

When the long-awaited Fondó en Festes arrives, our town transforms into a place of gathering, music, joy, and of course, traditional flavors. Among all the customs that accompany the festivities, one of the most endearing is the family preparation of our typical sweets, recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Almonds, the essence of our confectionery

The almond, an emblematic fruit of our region, is the essential ingredient in the traditional confectionery of Hondón. With it, we prepare the most representative sweets of these festive days:

Almendrados: small delights, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, made with ground almonds, egg white, and sugar.

Cordiales: sweets of Arab origin, with a heart of pumpkin jam wrapped in a soft mixture of grated almonds and egg.

Murcianos: another classic of these festivities, simple yet full of authentic flavor, always present on family tables.

A ritual that brings generations together

Preparing these sweets is not just about cooking—it is about living the festivity through the kitchen. Families gather around the table, where grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and grandchildren share secrets, knead, fill, and bake while recalling stories from years past.

Sweets that taste like home and celebration

The aroma of freshly baked almendrados, the golden glow of cordiales, and the smooth texture of murcianos are inseparable from these festive days. Tasting them during the celebration is like savoring the very essence of Fondó: unity, tradition, and joy.

In every bite, we find not only the flavor of almonds, but also the collective memory of our town, which keeps alive a tradition that defines us and makes us proud.
